David O. Russell Charting Teenage Rom Com Waters

After making political films, existential mindf*cks and then getting “nailed” by production woes, I can understand why David O. Russell might want to hit the “off” switch and take on something less demanding after-all, the teenage rom com seems to be the more popular menu du jour item these days. Aaron and Sarah will be produced by Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen.

At this point we are unsure whether Russell will work on this already set script or hit The Silver Linings Playbook: A Novel for the Weinstein Co.

Before putting the project in turnaround, I quite liked the commonly overused term as a film title) Rogue Pictures had set George Lucas in Love director Joe Nussbaum (whose contribution to the film world came with teenage demo films Sleepover and Sydney White) to direct. Now Fox 2000 have changed the title and the overall direction of the project – setting a more qualified director on an original story written by Chad and Dara Resnik Creasey. Formerly titled by the term used commonly by the teen and tween set that stands for “best friends forever” (B.F.F.), this traces the story of two friends, a nerdy guy and a popular girl who meet as freshmen and, over four years of high school, four proms and one funeral, become friends and eventually fall in love.

Next up: the release of Nailed sometime in 2009.
