This year’s nominees have been announced with Kathryn Bigelow being the clear favorite among a field of noms that also include: James Cameron for Avatar; Lee Daniels for Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire; Jason Reitman for Up in the Air; and Quentin Tarantino for Inglourious Basterds.

This year’s big snub, not only amongst the DGA but many awards groups, is the Coen Bros. I guess with only one award category for feature films, the organization feels the need to spread the love around, but somehow, I had hoped that they’d buck the trend and despite awarding them back in 2007 for NCFOM, that they’d value excellence no matter how regular they are. Don’t get me started on Precious, an average film that does indeed pack a punch, but far inferior to A Serious Man

Stay tuned for tuned for the end of the month (January 30th) for when Bigelow wins, becomes the first woman to win the award, and then becomes the heavy favorite for Oscar.
