eOne to Give A New Life to ‘Jolene’

For the remainder of the 2010 film year, you might have a trio of possibilities to see actress Jessica Chastain in action. There’s the Terrence Malick film that the the whole world is waiting for, there’s John Madden’s The Debt (a late December release) and finally, eOne has saved Dan Ireland’s Jolene from obscurity.

Having played in several U.S fests dating back to Seattle in 2008, originally, I think the project was set up with a Screen Media deal, but now its pegged with an October release, as Entertainment One continues to make their way into the U.S market.

The project is based on E.L. Doctorow’s tale “Jolene: A Life,” from the 2004 collection “Sweet Land Stories.” It centers on a red-haired heroine (Chastain) whose cross-country adventures beginning at age 15 are tracked over the course of a decade. The pic stars, including Dermot Mulroney, Michael Vartan, Chazz Palminteri, Rupert Friend, and Denise Richards.
