Word to helmer Kevin Macdonald: you have no idea what you just got yourself into. The trades are reporting that Macdonald (part documentarian and part feature filmmaker) is teaming with Ridley Scott and YouTube to create what is being dubbed “the first user-generated feature-length documentary.” In many ways, Life in a Day will probably come out looking like Koyaanisqatsi as if it were filmed by the folks pushing the hitrecord.org idea. I imagine a team of editors will be assembled for what should be a more insane task than having to sift through tons of indie crap that John Cooper the Sundance programmers have to sit through. Park City might also be the site for MacDonald’s other film (The Eagle of the Ninth) to be released.

The doc will incorporate footage shot on July 24 that is submitted by YouTube users from around the world. It will have its world premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. MacDonald will probably go for larger themes such as the life cycle, and the pending destruction of the human race. He gives you the parameters to work with and the entire lowdown at the official youtube site
