Full Circle for Meirelles and Rachel Weisz with 360

When we consider that classic films such as Max Ophuls’ La Ronde, and Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut were both based on Austrian author Arthur Schnitzler’s 1900 play Reigen, then my thoughts on Fernando Meirelles taking on 360 and fitting and re-teaming with Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener duo) are…milk this for all its worth. This follows the June report that Peter Morgan and Meirelles were working on the project, looks like the psychosexual drama might help us forget about Blindness.

Written by Peter Morgan, 360 would use the template that consists of short scenes between couples, shown before or after a sexual liaison. After each scene, one character from the pairing is then shown with another partner, who is then shown with another partner, and so on. Finally, the promiscuity comes full circle. The Ophuls’ film foreshadowed the link between characters by prominently featuring an old school merry-go-round.

Weisz just premiered The Whistleblower at TIFF, and is currently filming the Terrence Malick romantic drama. 360 is being produced by Austrian producer Dor Film and co-financed by BBC Films and its Austrian TV counterpart ORF Fernsehfilm. Executive producing is David Linde.
