Samuel Goldwyn Films know a thing or two about making a buck with faith-based dramas – the Kirk Cameron starring tale Fireproof made an astounding thirty-three million at the box office. No need in pointing out that there is a good segment of the population in red states portion of the U.S. who don’t mind mixing the movie-going experience with some of the lessons learned on Sunday mornings, but I think a couple of prayers might be needed for this “message” film (make sure you help thee neighbor in the cruel high school setting). Will the tweens, teens and their moms and dads make the trip out for Brian Baugh’s To Save a Life?
Already pegged January 22nd date, Samuel Goldwyn will bring in the new year with the film which THR reports that the indie co. will team with Outreach Films and New Song for the film’s release – think the multiplex and church basements. I’d take 5 minutes of campus horrors in Antonio Campos’s Afterschool or Gus Van Sants’ Elephant over this dreck, but I’ll still be curious in seeing the numbers of a grass-roots campaign. For a good chuckle take a look at the trailer.
