Published on

One critically acclaimed indie hit can do so much for a burgeoning filmmaking career – just ask do the pair who gave us Half Nelson. They are currently moments away from filming Sugar and are expected to adapt the novel It's Kind of a Funny Story for the big screen, today Variety reports that the duo of Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are attached to adapt and direct this project brought to them by Miramax Films.

Based on the novel written by Marisha Pessl, Special Topics in Calamity Physics centers on a teenage girl who, after spending years of high school moving each semester with her eccentric teacher father, settles in a small North Carolina town for her senior year. There she becomes part of an upper-crust social set called the Bluebloods and gets caught up in the mysterious death of their favorite teacher.
