Halle Berry Likes ‘Frankie & Alice’ Oscar Chances

Halle Berry wants another one. Apparently unaware that there isn’t much leg room in the Best Actress race, and oblivious to the fact that Geoffrey Sax’s Frankie & Alice had its world premieres in in film markets, not film festivals, Berry and some private dollars are getting behind the indie drama attempting to make a push for an Oscar nom in only 6 weeks from now. Deadline reports that Freestyle Releasing will distribute, selecting a December 17th NYC/L.A. release date and going up against Nicole Kidman’s Rabbit Hole.

Gist: Working with the tag line of “One woman. Two minds.”, this drama centered on a young woman with multiple personality disorder (Berry) who struggles to remain her true self and not give in to her racist alter-personality. Stellan Skarsgård’s character’ name is Dr.Oz. I’m not making this up.

Worth Noting: With White Noise and Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker, Sax isn’t synonymous with award season work. Prior to its larger February 4th release, a total of 10,000 DVD screeners are going out to Academy members and critic associations. Expect the cover slip to mention “Monster’s Ball” & “Oscar”.

Why Do We Care?: We don’t. Buyers who’ve seen the film were mentioning this is a dud. With front-runners for Best Actress in Michelle Williams, Lesley Manville, Jennifer Lawrence, Annette Bening and Emma Stone, we’re sure Frankie & Alice isn’t going to mix up the cards. When critics do see the film they’ll be using a measuring stick against another “Monster“, in Patty Jenkins’ serial killer love story also working with the notion of split personalities.
