Haneke’s ‘Ces Deux’ Not Allowed to Get Old

Earlier in the year, Michael Haneke was contemplating a pair of film ideas and the one that we thought was temporarily “shelved”, has according to Haneke’s muse Isabelle Huppert, been thrown back on the burner. A film project that Haneke had mentioned as early as 2006, Ces Deux had financial backing and already had thesps Huppert and Jean Louis Trintignant confirmed, but Haneke’s “internet” project would take the lead.

Apparently, there has been a switch-up, ThePlaylist reports that the project is only a couple of months away from filming, and Emmanuelle Riva will play Huppert’s mother in the film. This will be the third time Huppert works with Haneke. The pair teamed on the difficult to forget bizarre mother-daughter rapport in The Piano Teacher and dystopia near the train tracks pic,Time of the Wolf.

Gist: We can expect a more in-depth synopsis closer to the production date, but from what we’ve gathered over the years, this contains a strong musical element, and will tackle the subject of aging – dealing with the notion of a deteriorating, aging body while maintaing a youthful mind. Something any 30-year old and up can relate to.

Worth Noting: There’ll be a strong “Kieslowski connection” with this project. Jean-Louis Trintignant starred in Three Colours: Red and Emmanuelle Riva was in Three Colors: Blue.

Do We Care?: A love him or hate him director. We heart Haneke, but we appreciate the notion of a film that tackles the subject matter in a more scrupulous manner.
