Hurt Locker Surely Helped in Anthony Mackie’s Career ‘Adjustment’

I don’t know about you, but I get the impression that Anthony Mackie just sort of appears in key roles and then we lose sight of him. I have a vivid good impression of the actor with his takes on Spike Lee clunker She Hate Me and his supporting bit in Half Nelson and was glad to see play the jaded, mentally worn out Sergeant JT Sanborn role in one of the best pictures of the year in The Hurt Locker. Everything in between is a blur. Variety reports that he might have parlayed that perf into a supporting role in the Philip K. Dick 1954 short story (“Adjustment Team”) that Universal is planning to start film The Adjustment Bureau in Bloomberg’s New York in a matter of weeks. 

Nolfi wrote the script and directs the project that will see Matt Damon play a charismatic congressman who seems destined for national political stardom. He meets a beautiful ballet dancer (Emily Blunt), only to find strange circumstances keeping their sparks from catching fire. 

Other recent PKD short stories that received a popcorn treatment include: Minority Report (2002), based on Dick’s short story of “The Minority Report”, Paycheck (2003) based on Dick’s short story of the same name and Next (2007), loosely based on the short story “The Golden Man.”

Mackie is also pegged to suit up for the lead in the celebrated barrier breaker/Olympian, Jesse Owens.
