IFC nose dives into ‘Penelope’

One of the most sought after world preem titles at this year’s Toronto film fest has now found not one, but two buyers. IFC Films and the Weinstein Co. have pacted a deal that sees IFC handle the theatrical release and the Weinstein’s handling home video and TV. The deal as The Hollywood Reporter says that there is a big P&A commitment for Penelope‘s 07 release.

One of the most sought after world preem titles at this year’s Toronto film fest has now found not one, but two buyers. IFC Films and the Weinstein Co. have pacted a deal that sees IFC handle the theatrical release and the Weinstein’s handling home video and TV. The deal as The Hollywood Reporter says that there is a big P&A commitment for Penelope‘s 07 release.

Produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Type-A Films and financed by Stone Village Pictures, this story concerns a young woman (Ricci) who must break a family curse and find true love. McAvoy will play the title character’s love interest, O’Hara and Grant her parents. Dinklage plays a photographer obsessed with photographing the title character, who’s been cursed with the face of a pig.

This is the directorial debut from one Mark Palansky – he was recently second unit director for Hollywood films such as The Island and The Amityville Horror an did some Super 8 footage for another Michael Bay flick Pearl Harbor.
