Kusturica Places Bounty on ‘Pancho Villa’

It’s nice to see that Emir Kusturica is turning the page on a failed documentary film based on a certain soccer god from Argentina and is now looking to explore a legend from Mexico, after all — the last time I was excited by a film that the enigmatic filmmaker was with what is now a distant memory in Black Cat, White Cat. If all goes as planned, Kusturica’s Seven Friends of Pancho Villa and the Woman With Six Fingers would include a version/vision of Pancho Villa with Javier Bardem in mind.

Based on the novel “The Friends of Pancho Villa” by James Carlos, the screenplay by Kusturica and co-contributor Gordan Mihic would start shooting late 2009/early 2010 in Mexico, Spain and some interiors in Serbia. Production house Fidelite will produce.
