Lionsgate Films are seriously padding their 2011 slate, adding the recently completed Mandate Pictures’ LOL to their sched. Helmer Lisa Azuelos’ “LOL,” is a remake of her 2008 French comedy, “Laughing Out Loud.”

Gist: It’s up in the air as to how much this will resemble the original, the coming-of-age tale takes place in a world connected by YouTube, iTunes and Facebook. Lola (Cyrus) and her friends navigate the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship while dodging their sometimes overbearing and confused parents. When Lola’s mom, Anne (Moore), “accidentally” reads her teenage daughter’s racy journal, she realizes just how wide their communication gap has grown.

Worth Noting: Christa Theret and Sophie Marceau played the daughter and mother team in the original. French box office in France was 3.5 Euros on 430 screens.

Do We Care?: Call it a general lack of enthusiasm for filmmakers who sign up for American remakes of their original film, but it’ll take some major convincing to want to invest in this , especially with the lead cast in place and the fact that anything “social media” related after the examples we had this year. While all the buzz will be about how Miley Cyrus turns in a Lohan-like, demo-changing perf a la Georiga Rule.
