Female presidents, female screenwriters and now female comedians are sharing the spotlight. Having forever played second fiddle to the long list of male comedians on the show, lead by Tina Fey, the SNL girls are finally taking the comedy world by storm and in the same measure, have ventured into television (30 Rock) internet (Sarah’s ode to Matt Damon) and studio feature film territory (Mean Girls). Today, the Tribeca Film Festival (a festival of indie, world and docu offerings that generally opens with studio fair) have announced that the will open with Universal Pictures’ Baby Mama. Written and directed by Michael McCullers, the film centers
on a single career woman (Fey) whose desire to have a child and keep her career
leads her to hire a surrogate (Pohler). Weaver will play Chaffee Bicknell, owner
and operator of the surrogate agency that Fey’s character uses.
