Magnolia finds friend and ‘Foe’

In my books David Mackenzie has in his young career, already established himself as a U.K director worthy of auteurist studies. His breakthrough film Young Adam – a pic that was screened in Un Certain Regard at Cannes blew me away and I get to have some more – Variety reports that Magnolia Pictures has picked up his latest pic for a domestic 08’ release (Red Envelope Entertainment is also on the deal with the DVD release).

Hallam Foe might be a rooftop, treehouse version of Rear Window, based on the screenplay by Ed Whitmore and based on the novel by Peter Jinks – this is a twisted Freudian adventure, the film centers on a teenager (Jamie Bell) voyeur who fancies his step-mother (Sophia Myles) until he becomes convinced that she murdered his mother. He leaves home when she seduces him and begins a feral life in the rooftops of Edinburgh until he spots and becomes obsessed with a girl who looks just like his mother.
