Magnolia picks up Aussie drama ‘Romulus’

Magnolia Pictures have announced the pick-up of the dramatic period piece that recently played at Toronto film festival and picked up 16 Australian Film Awards nominations including best film, director and screenplay. I bypassed the family drama at TIFF mostly because I had issues with the trailer I had seen just prior –  too much was divulged in the simple 3 minutes that I saw. I might give this a second chance only because  I like the post war war II bike  that we see in the trailer.

Helmed by Richard Roxburgh and based on Raimond Gaitas' award-winning memoir and written by Nick Drake, Romulus, My Father  tells the story of a young family's bid to start a new life in a hostile country (from Germany to Australia in 1950). The story focuses on the relationship between the boy and his father in the wake of his mother's death.
