Major Actress to Join Amalric in Satrapi and Paronnaud’s ‘Waiting for Azrael’

With filming set to begin this Summer at the Studio Babelsberg just outside Berlin, Celluloid Dreams has a little leeway and might make the big announcement on the Croisette, the lieu where that Persepolis was launched, that not one, but two actresses that will be signing onto Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud’s Waiting for Azrael, the book to live-action adaptation of Satrapi’s illustrated novel Chicken with Plums.

With filming set to begin this Summer at the Studio Babelsberg just outside Berlin, Celluloid Dreams has a little leeway and might make the big announcement on the Croisette, the lieu where that Persepolis was launched, that not one, but two actresses that will be signing onto Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud’s Waiting for Azrael, the book to live-action adaptation of Satrapi’s illustrated novel Chicken with Plums. According to undisclosed sources, the one that would star flashback portions of the story-line is an A-list actress – I won’t divulge the name and leave the guessing up to you guys, but the person circling the project is actually an American actress which would mean that the project, despite being set in Iran and starring the mostly French-speaking actor in Mathieu Amalric, would be an English-language production. When the project was first announced at Berlin, I also added the name of Sophia Loren as a distinct possibility in a cameo-like appearance.

This chronicles the story of a renowned Iranian tar player (played by Amalric) who wants to die, because his wife has broken his tar (Iranian lute). But this sorrow hides another hidden pain: the failed love affair with the woman of his life, whom he has met again by chance. Here is a lengthier
