Helen Mirren is on on board to play a Mossad agent (think CIA) in John Madden’s English language remake of Assaf Bernstein’s 2007 Israeli film “HaHov”. To be distributed by Miramax films (most likely in late 09′), The Debt will see the title role, a female protagonist split into two parts: circa the ’60s and ’90s. Mirren was last seen packing heat in Lee Daniels’ Shadowboxer. The Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman spec follows a trio of 1960s Israeli intelligence agents who pursue a Nazi war criminal only to have him escape. More than 30 years later, their target re-emerges, forcing one of the agents to track him down and preserve their decades-old cover-up. Variety reports that filming will begin next year in the U.K., Germany and Israel.

We’ll be getting a triple dose of Mirren next year, she stars in Kevin Macdonald’s thriller State of Play, hubby Taylor Hackford’s Love Ranch and Michael Hoffman’s The Last Station. Madden (Proof) will have his long delayed Killshot released in November by Miramax. Sex and Sylvia Plath should next be in line.
