Norway’s Foreign Oscar nom: Gone With the Woman

Published on

Norway has submitted Petter Naess' Gone with the Woman for foreign Oscar consideration.

Based on Erlend Loe's bestseller “Tatt av kvinnen”,  Gone with the Woman is the story of He, a male who hasn't even got a name. And, without him fully grasping how it comes about, his life is invaded by a woman. From this point on, he struggles to tackle the situation; He could try to throw out the invader, or try to adjust to the circumstances. He opts for the second alternative, and decides to fall deeply in love. As He himself puts it: “I will start already by tomorrow.” A sincere, although somewhat naïve project. But she already has this little grip on him, she is a small step ahead. And He is behind her. Only a few seconds, a few lines, but still behind – in his own life. He passes from being invaded to being in love to being left behind. And exactly when He is about to forget her – she returns. The film tells the story of a man who is finally forced to decide how he is going to live his own life – and this is the woman's merit.
