Orange of the Week: Dr. David Flintstein, Dr. Ronald Chevalier, Dr. Howard Mierzwiak and Frank T.J. Mackey

I received an odd email earlier this week from Dr. David Flintstein, Founder of The Soul Storage Company. Flintstein mentions in his email that he’d “gladly provide 50% off of any future service at The Soul Storage Company. Just bring a copy of this email when you check in with the receptionist at our Roosevelt Island office.”

I received an odd email earlier this week from Dr. David Flintstein, Founder of The Soul Storage Company. Flintstein mentions in his email that he’d “gladly provide 50% off of any future service at The Soul Storage Company. Just bring a copy of this email when you check in with the receptionist at our Roosevelt Island office.” The Orange of the Week goes to film distribution companies who put a little fun into their movie marketing campaigns and truly get into ‘character’.

We could argue the merits and usefulness of web campaigns, and could debate the successful and badly done viral/websites that studios churn out on a monthly basis, but the one type of trinket that seems to work wonders for me are the types that not only supplement and celebrate the off-beatedness of a given film, but who have fun with the personality of it. Like the TV spot of Frank T.J. Mackey (Tom Cruise’s character in Magnolia) or the character-devoted websites for Dr. Howard Mierzwiak (Tom Wilkinson’s character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Dr. Ronald Chevalier (Jemaine Clement’s character in the upcoming Gentlemen Broncos) and now Flintstein (David Strathairn in Cold Souls), this facet certainly gets the curious more inclined to check out a www. address and in many cases simply extends the humor beyond just the film itself.
