Taking a cue from last week’s deal that will see Summit load up on Participant Media films, Overture films will most probably fill up their future slate with mid-range films like The Rebound, Law Abiding Citizen and The Beautiful and the Damned. In tough economic times it makes a lot of sense for newbie indie distribution companies to pair up with prod companies – in this case, it assures that Mark Gill and Neil Sacker‘s Film Dept. has a home for their output during these tough economic times and it may also help Overture avoid mistakes like Mad Money, Sleepwalking and Righteous Kill. THR reports that will Law Abiding Citizen will be released by Overture.
Scripted by Kurt Wimmer and Frank Darabont, the script follows a successful assistant D.A. (Gerald Butler) who finds himself at the center of a vigilante plot hatched by a traumatized victim of the legal system (Jamie Foxx). Foxx’s character is devastated to learn that, because of a plea bargain, one of his wife and daughter’s murderers will be set free. So he unleashes revenge on the killers and those who made the deal. F. Gary Gray directs.
