Sion Sono is ‘Guilty of Romance’

We find Japanese helmer Sion Sono embarking on a new project that, according to the film’s sales agent, promises to include “hard sex scenes”. We have Gaspar Noe who’ll next mince elements of porn into a mainstream NC-17 film, but beating him to the punch-line we find Japanese helmer Sion Sono embarking on a new project that, according to the film’s sales agent, promises to include “hard sex scenes”. The AFM sold Guilty of Romance will star a little-known unnamed actress, and will obviously become one more example of how the filmmaker behind recent TIFF preemed Cold Fish and Strange Circus continually works with a poetic curriculum that provokes.

Gist: Not much to go one here except for what appears to be a sci-fi like template…: this begins on a night that a woman’s body, cut in half and otherwise violated and attached to a mannequin, is found in an abandoned building.

Worth Noting: Was reading up on Sono’s Wiki entry and found that in 1994 Jean-Jacques Beineix and Jackie Bastide used footage of Sion Sono’s poetry group and interviewed him for their famous documentary Otaku, about the otaku lifestyle and post-modernism in Japan. It supposedly made Sono gain fame as both a poet and prominent figure in Japanese independent filmmaking.

Do We Care?: We criminally missed out on the serial killer flick Cold Fish at TIFF, so we have that film to look forward to before we saddle into sci-fi porn film.
