Strouse finds ‘Winning’ combo with Rockwell and Roberts

I’m glad to know that there is life after theatrical death. I don’t know what the homevid numbers were like, but I’m sure that independent filmmaker James Strouse was hoping for a better turn out for his first film especially after The Weinstein Company bought the rights for a his debut (Grace is Gone) for a cool 4 million. The John Cusack starring drama managed to pick up a pair of awards at its Sundance premiere, but audiences and perhaps the company saw that there was little appeal for Iraq-themed projects. The picture would go onto gross only 50g’s.

Variety reports that Strouse is teaming once again with New York-based indie production house Plum Pictures on a new project which once again features a meltdown of sorts for the principle male lead. Written by Strouse, The Winning Season is set to begin filming in October, and will feature Sam Rockwell, Emma Roberts and Rob Corddry.

The picture revolves around a divorced, down-on-his-luck coach (Rockwell) who makes a bid for redemption by coaching his daughter’s team. Gigi Prods. is also producing.
