Tadjedin to make the most out of her ‘Last Night’

After making her name by penning The Jacket, Iranian-American screenwriter Massy Tadjedin is getting the chance to move behind the camera with Last Night. Making it two for two with actress Keira Knightley, Variety reports that the scribe who has many screenplays in circulation, will also be directing Eva Mendes, Sam Worthington and Guillaume Canet in the marriage drama. Nick Wechsler Prods (Reservation Road, The Road) is teaming with Gaumont on the project — French powerhouse Gaumont is ultimately looking to add some English language fair to their slate, improving international sales chances.

Unlike the John Maybury psychological thriller of 2005, and a project on tap like Wednesday (about a car-jacking experience gone wrong), this will follow a married couple, apart for a night while the husband takes a business trip with a colleague to whom he’s attracted. While he’s resisting temptation, his wife encounters her past love. Production begins next month in New York for an eventual 2009 release.
