Teaser: Abbas Kiarostami’s Certified Copy

The face of a woman applying lipstick with an extra kick in her step. This sums up the first teaser seconds for Palme d’Or winning director Abbas Kiarostami’s light romance (think Before Sunrise for an older demo). With Juliette Binoche’s face being splashed everywhere on the Croisette, MK2 will have no problems selling the film to either IFC and SPC.

We also have the promo poster (click here for a quick view).

Based on an original script by Kiarostami, Copie Conforme (a.k.a Certified Copy) tells the story of an English author (William Shimell) finds himself in Italy to promote his latest book and give a lecture on the subject of the relationship between originals and copies in the world of art. At the lecture he meets a French gallery owner (Binoche) and they decide to waste a couple of hours in the alleyways of a village in the southern parts of Tuscany. On a whim, the woman jokingly makes him out to be her all too often absent husband and the author plays along. As they enter into the game, they both find it increasingly difficult to draw a line between make believe and reality.
