The Other Carlos in Cannes: Diegues’ 5XFavela

The chances of us finding the next Walter Salles or Fernando Meirelles via Carlos Diegues’ 5XFavela are next to nil, but I’d argue that’s besides the point. Amongst Cannes’ feel good stories this year will be this one, a Special Screening selection just added by Cannes today.

From appearances only, 5XFavela is a short film collective from young filmmakers who happen to be situated in Brazil’s slum neighborhoods. In the end it’s about opportunity and community so it’ll be nice to see the red carpet steps populated by all sorts of folk.
