After years in the shadows of Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu (not really), Guillermo Arriaga is making the big leap forward directing his feature length debut based yet again on thematically connected storylines. With the backing of Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald as producers, Variety reports that Charlize Theron will star in and produce the film, along with 2929's Marc Butan, Todd Wagner and Mark Cuban. Beth Kono will be co-producer.
The Burning Plain will see Theron play the role of Sylvia, who tries to find common ground with her parents after a turbulent childhood. The under $20 million drama will start shooting in November.
