TIFF 2009 Day 6: Tom Ford’s A Single Man

Despite getting lost with perfume ad fantasy elements and a constant flux of punctuating each scene with stylistic flourishes, A Single Man isn’t a case of all style and no substance – there is a “pinch” of substance in this admirable debut from fashion icon Tom Ford.

Despite getting lost with perfume ad fantasy elements and a constant flux of punctuating each scene with stylistic flourishes, A Single Man isn’t a case of all style and no substance – there is a “pinch” of substance in this admirable debut from fashion icon Tom Ford. The gorgeous-looking pic has found a sweet spot among fellow critics and the Weinstein Co. were quick to snap up the picture following Colin Firth’s Venice Fest win for best actor, but I couldn’t help feel that there were too many imperfections, especially the lack of narrative to make this the talk of the fest.
