TIFF Bound: Brad Anderson’s Vanishing on 7th Street

File this under confirmed films for TIFF 2010 that have yet to be announced. A strong contender for a Midnight Madness slot, Brad Anderson’s Vanishing on 7th Street will perhaps have its North American, and most likely world premiere this September. Anderson who presented The Machinist at the fest several years back, usually shuttles between television work and feature films – with his last pic being the train murder thriller Transsiberian.

The producers behind Vanishing on 7th Street will be seeking a North American distribution deal. The pic stars Hayden Christensen, Thandie Newton and John Leguizamo in a “where did everyone go?” mystery thriller. Here’s the synopsis, official site pics and an onset news report with Anderson describing the look he’s aiming for in one specific scene.

A mysterious, seemingly global blackout yields countless populations to simply vanish, leaving only their clothes and possessions behind. A small handful of survivors band together in a dimly-lit tavern on 7th Street, struggling to combat the apocalyptic horror. Realizing they may in fact be the last people on earth, the darkness hones in on them alone.

In other TIFF selection news, ThePlaylist has confirmed that Rowan Joffe’s Brighton Rock will be premiering in Toronto. I was thinking that Studio Canal would be seeking a competition slot in Venice.
