#93. Margaret
Director/Writer: Kenneth Lonergan
Producers: Gary Gilbert, the late Sydney Pollack and Scott Rudin
Distributor: Fox Searchlight
The Gist: This centers on a 17-year-old New York City high-school student who feels certain that she inadvertently played a role in a traffic accident that has claimed a woman’s life. In her attempts to set things right she meets with opposition at every step. Torn apart with frustration, she begins emotionally brutalizing her family, her friends, her teachers, and most of all, herself. She has been confronted quite unexpectedly with a basic truth: that her youthful ideals are on a collision course against the realities and compromises of the adult world.
Fact: Lonergan has been in the editing room with this one for years.
Why is it on the list?: We’ve waited a long long time for this to come out and we ain’t losing hope. We are behind you Kenneth.
Release Date/Status?: I’d like to say that a festival premiere is certain – but this project has been in limbo for so long that it may be best to not status still remains unknown.
