#35. The Details
Director: Jacob Aaron Estes (to Tobey Maguire’s right in the pic)
Producers: Mark Gordon, Hagai Shaham and Bryan Zuriff
Distributor: Rights Available.
The Gist: It all started with those wretched raccoons. The very morning after Jeff (Tobey Maguire) completed his perfect garden with newly laid turf, he wakes up to find it in total disarray, with each strip of grass flipped over as if he had been singled out by some kind of lawn terrorist… And things are not going great with his wife Nealy (Elizabeth Banks) either...(more)
Cast: Elizabeth Banks, Tobey Maguire, Ray Liotta and Laura Linney.
Why is it on the list?: I was smitten by Estes’ psychological accuracy in Mean Creek, a damn fine rendering of pre-teenage youth and I’m looking forward to his treatment of damaged souls with this dark comedy. From coming of age to grown-ups that have more growing up to do, this might be a pleasurable domestic tale a la Todd Field’s Little Children.
Release Date/Status?: Will preem at a major North American film festival – look for it to be picked up prior to premiere showing. An autumn release is most likely.
