‘Whatever Works’ for SPC is Fine by Woody Allen

Sony Pictures Classics hasn’t had a Woody Allen property since 1999, which in Woody Allen-years means an eternity. Since Sweet and Lowdown, the prolific filmmaker has been busy on both sides of the Atlantic, and SPC’s acquisition of Whatever Works accounts for the second major pick up in two weeks time (they nabbed An Education in a heavy bidding war at Sundance).

Financed by the Wild Bunch folks, the new film will most likely be showcased at the 62nd edition of the Cannes Film Festival before being released domestically during ice cream season.

Combining a unique cast of characters in Ed Begley Jr., Patricia Clarkson, Larry David and Evan Rachel Wood, this sees Henry Cavill play a man who is set up with Wood’s character by her mother. The catch is that David also stars as Wood’s love interest. Lensing the film is cinematographer great, Harris Savides.
