October is gearing up to be a controversial month of film offerings and cinephiles will have the folks from the Lionsgate Films camp to blame for all the fun. The month that Reggie Jackson loves most, ends with the withdrawal symptoms from the Iraq war in Neil Burger’s The Lucky Ones and a ketchup-colored stained fifth offering from the Saw franchise, but the two titles that are sure to stir up a long winded debate and get a lot of ink flowing are Oliver Stone’s portrait of the odds-against tale of a person who finds himself president (October 17th) and Bill Maher’s commentary on everyone from Jesus to the boss of it all (there are more than one in this documentary).

Larry Charles’ Religulous (October 3rd) follows the HBO employed Maher as he travels around the
globe interviewing people about God and religion. Known for his astute
analytical skills, irreverent wit and commitment to never pulling a punch, Maher
brings his characteristic honesty to an unusual spiritual journey.

After being pushed from a spring or summer 2008 release, it’s a likely Toronto and/or a Telluride combo showcase where this film will first be presented, and with the film already in the can we don’t have to wait to long for a first glimpse: To checkout the trailer click here, for further fun you can make an enlightened trip over to the teaser site.
