I wasn’t entirely convinced of Casey Affleck‘s take as a small town private detective dabbling in a little vigilantism in Gone Baby Gone, but Jessica Alba efficiently lured passer-byers in Sin City — these are some of the qualities we might find again in a film noir model to be filmed early next year. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Michael Winterbottom will direct the pair in a $13 million dollar project based on a pulp novel (circa 1976) by Jim Thompson (The Grifters). Filming should begin sometime in mid-January.

Written by Robert Weinbach and John Curran (The Painted Veil), The Killer Inside Me follows a West Texas sheriff (Affleck) and his downward spiral from a boring small-town cop into a ruthless, sociopathic murderer. As murder victims begin to pile up in his town, suspicion falls on Lou. He will do anything to escape but he cannot escape what he is. Alba plays the local prostitute.

MuseFilm’s Chris Hanley, Cyclone Prods.’ Weinbach, Revolution Films’ Andrew Eaton and Bradford Schlei are producing. The money is coming from Indion Entertainment Group, Barbarian Films and OceaniaMedia Finance.
