Interview: Bafic – Sub Eleven Seconds

Published on

Short film filmmakers and athletes trying to beat the clock belong to a species of human beings who might have an invested interest in precious units of time. Among the excellent short film curated at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival we got into the psyche of American track and field sprinter Sha Carri Richardson via a docu short titled Sub Eleven Seconds. She’s flamboyant, outspoken, confident, and dedicated and happens to be the fastest woman to run 100M but London-based moving image artist simply known as Bafic is more interested in peeling the layers – measuring the ticking clock and what makes a person tick. Inspired by films such as Ron Fricke’s Baraka, Bafic’s utilities an assortment of filming tools and techniques to craft a film that moves beyond surface level representation with this “un-sports” docu about the notion of time. Here is my chat with the filmmaker.
