Video Interview: Laura Moss & Brendan O’Brien (Birth/Rebirth) – 2020 Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab

Most recently collaborating on the 1989-set coming-of-ager (set against the backdrop of Ted Bundy’s execution) SXSW selected short Fry Day, they continued their creative output with 2020 Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab selected Birth/Rebirth. Laura Moss (whose Production Design work is featured in Cannes Competition entry Yomeddine and Sundance NEXT section selection 306 Hollywood) and Brendan O’Brien (whose Boom operator work can be heard in recent films such as Birdman and The Many Saints of Newark) have collectively seen their works shoring up at the Rotterdam, Clermont-Ferrand, SXSW and Tribeca Film Festivals.

On paper, Birth/Rebirth sounds like a noir dark humored project with a logline focusing on an all-female reimagining of the Frankenstein story focusing on a grieving maternity nurse and an obsessive morgue technician who are unexpectedly bound together in a quest to successfully re-animate a deceased child.

During the 2020 edition of the Sundance Film Festival I had the opportunity to sit down with select filmmakers who attended the Sundance Institute January Screenwriters Lab. Here is my sit down with co-writer/director Laura Moss and co-writer Brendan O’Brien.
