Magnolia Pictures continue Scandi Treasure Diving with Sandemose’s “Ranganok”

Published on

With pick-ups such as Trollhunter, Headhunters, A Royal Affair, A Hijacking and most recently Pioneer, Eamonn Bowles’ Magnolia Pictures has recently become a go-to label of sorts for Scandi cinematic offerings. Today, they’ve added one more fjord offering in Ragnarok – Mikkel Sandemose’s sophomore feature. Due to come out in Scandinavian theaters late in the year, we imagine that Magnolia might try to fit the item in genre fests before releasing it early 2014.

Gist: The action adventure film feature’s Pal Sverre Hagen (Kon-Tiki) as an archaelogist obsessed with the Viking treasure, who discovers terrifying secrets as he searches for the answer to the mystery of Ragnarok, the ‘end of days’ in Norse mythology.

Worth Noting: Sandemose’s heavily stylized directing debut Cold Prey 3 (see trailer below) appears to have been the ideal calling card to kick-start his future in filmmaking.

Do We Care?: This might be a quality pick-up as Screen Daily reports that a three-minute promo at EFM was enough to persuade the distrib to pick-up the title. We’re curious in seeing which international festivals will want to premiere it.
