Apples
Christos Nikou makes his directorial debut with Apples, produced by Marius Wlodarski (The Harvesters, 2018), Angelos Venetis and Iraklis Mavroidis (both of Dogtooth, 2009) and Aris Dagios. The title stars Aris Servetalis (of Alps, 2011 and L, 2012) and Babis Makidris (the director of 2012’s L and 2018’s Pity). Nikou served as as assistant director on Yorgos Lanthimos’ Dogtooth and Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight (2013). His short debut KM was released in 2012.
Gist: Co-written by Stavros Raptis, Apples focuses on Aris, a thirty-something solitary man afflicted by an unexplained surge of amnesia which seems to be sweeping the city. During his treatment he meets a woman suffering from the same condition and their relationship compels Aris to move into a new direction with his life.
Release Date/Prediction: Nikou’s project is in post-production, with teasers unveiled at C EU SOON in October, 2019. Apples could shore up at the Critics’ Week at Cannes.
