Brady Corbet to Lend Brotherly Support in Paradise Lost

Published on

Actor turned director Andrea Di Stefano’s ambitious directorial debut already has big names on its roster, such as Benicio del Toro, and teenage star Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games). Deadline reports that joining Paradise Lost and the current slew of the Pablo Escobar-inspired films is Brady Corbet, an actor who is mostly known for his work with world renowned auteurs and smaller scale productions for American indie filmmakers such as Sean Durkin (Martha Mary Marcy May).

Gist: Starring Del Toro as Mr. Escobar, the film is schedule to start production in Panama from a screenplay penned by Di Stefano himself. Hutcherson will play Nick, a young man visiting Colombia who falls in love for the wrong girl-Escobar’s niece. Corbet is set to appear as Hutcherson’s brother, Dylan. With few detail of the plot for now, his role could mean a love triangle, betrayal, or unconditional support as they enter the drug-dealing underworld as outsiders. Only time will tell which of these services will Corbet be providing for the film.

Worth Noting: Corbet who might be best known for his turns in Haneke’s Funny Games (2007)and most recently Antonio Campos’ Simon Killer, collaborated on the 2013 SXSW winning (Special Jury Prize for Best Ensemble) drama Burma, for which he also the co-edited with the filmmaker.

Do We Care: It’s hard to know what to expect from a film like this. On one hand you have and iconic cartel leader intertwined with an “impossible love” type story. Then you have the endless stylistic possibilities that could come out of an Italian first time writer/director like Di Stefano. Given that the cast includes Corbet and Del Toro, it is reasonable to predict a more intellectual approach to the south of the border drug-world-story, than other recent Hollywood attempts (Savages).
