Mambo Italiano: Aubrey Plaza & Alison Brie Among Regs in Jeff Baena’s “The Little Hours”

Published on

Usual contributors Aubrey Plaza and Paul Weitz, Life After Beth‘s John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon, Joshy‘s Alison Brie and Adam Pally and a slew of names in Dave Franco, Kate Micucci, Fred Armisen, Jon Gabrus, Jemima Kirke, Nick Offerman, Paul Reiser and Lauren Weedman are part of ensemble that has, according to Deadline, already been assembled for Jeff Baena‘s third feature film. Shot in Italy, The Little Hours was likely shot quickly, digitally and not much time after he premiered Joshy in Sundance’s U.S. Dramatic Comp. The project was produced by Destro Films’ Liz Destro while StarStream Media and Bow and Arrow Entertainment will executive produce and finance alongside Productivity Media in partnership with Concourse. The film was also executive produced by Exhibit Entertainment and Foton Pictures.

Gist: With nothing to go on except that this is a dark comedy, if we reference his last film, this will be a talkie ensemble item.

Worth Noting: Barna’s first cred is I Heart Huckabees.

Do We Care?: Picked up by Lionsgate, the hot tub friendly Joshy is definitely a notch above his debut film and we could imagine how an Italian backdrop could enhance character dynamics and add a level of complexity to what could be a more sinister, noir tone.
