Ruth Wilson Flowing Towards Barnard’s “Dark River”

Known for collecting accolades and her scrappy protags portraits under the new wave of Kitchen Sink realism label, Clio Barnard is moving ahead with her third feature film project and it appears that it won’t be the previously mentioned adaptation of the Rose Tremain novel Trespass. Deadline reports that Ruth Wilson (who’ll next appear in a pair of awesomely titled items in Oz Perkins’ I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House and John Cameron Mitchell’s How to Talk to Girls at Parties) is in negotiations to topline Barnard’s Dark River. Left Bank Pictures’ Tracy O’Riordan (producer on all Barnard films) is producing the project which was developed alongside the Film4 folks.

Worth Noting: The Selfish Giant was a Cannes Directors’ Fortnight 2013 selection – the sidebar section also helped push the careers of the likes of female Brit auteurs Andrea Arnold and Lynne Ramsay.

Do We Care?: The project logline isn’t available, but not unlike the worlds of The Arbor and The Selfish Giant, we’re almost guaranteed memorable characters in extreme situations and living conditions. Look for this to be among our most anticipated foreign films for 2017.
