2013 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Destin Cretton’s Short Term 12

Published on

Short Term 12 the feature, is based on a short film (see trailer below) that picked up Jury Prize for Best Short film at Sundance in 2008. My Hail Mary pass pick of all of my predictions, as the drama has been officially in post production since October, I figure that filmmaker Destin Cretton already had a well established blue print making for a tight production with the only real surprises coming from what was being served at the craft services table. The script won the Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship, and for those with a short term memory, Cretton’s premiered his feature debut at the fest last year – I’m Not A Hipster to a critically favorable response (our Jordan Smith says this is “a work of deep emotion that showcases a breakout performance by Dominic Bogart and a wonderful original soundtrack by Joel P. West.” Brie Larson toplines Short Term 12 – (I believe she is the one in the stripes in the tweet pic above)

Gist: Brie Larson plays a counselor for troubled kids in a foster home, and coming from a difficult past herself, struggles with feeling worthy enough to help anyone else.
