2014 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Adam Wingard’s The Guest

Published on

Sundance’s Trevor Groth has a special place in his cinephile heart for Adam Wingard’s filmic output – allowing the filmmaker to present the V/H/S omnibus series (V/H/S and the festival titled S-VHS) in back to back years. Production on The Guest began in August, which is pretty much the cut off date for late entries at the fest. We haven’t thrown in the towel yet on the Pop Skull (2007) / You’re Next (2013) director making it three for three. The recent concept artwork (tagline says it all) is a positive sign, but seeing that this “action thriller” is larger in budget chances are indeed slim for a January fest showing. Downtown Abbey‘s Dan Stevens toplines with a supporting cast comprised of Sheila Kelley, Leland Orser, Brendan Meyer and Maika Monroe (At Any Price).

Gist: Written by Simon Barrett, story follows an ex-Marine who returns from a tour of duty a changed man and becomes a house guest to a military family whose eldest son recently died. Kelley plays the family’s grieving matriarch.

Production Co./Producers: Snoot Entertainment’s Keith Calder and Jessica Wu (You’re Next)

Prediction: Park City at Midnight is a stretch – there are better chances at SXSW scooping this up.

U.S. Distributor: Rights Available
