2017 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Andrew Dosunmu’s Where is Kyra?

Andrew Dosunmu left quite the mark with his Sundance preemed micro-indie (Restless City) and macro indie (Mother of George) offerings and now he turns his lenses (he reteams with cinematographer Bradford Young) on a different class demographic. While the attached Fela Kuti biopic hasn’t yet moved forward, he moved onto the formerly titled Beat-up Little Seagull, which stars Michelle Pfeiffer alongside Kiefer Sutherland. Production on Where Is Kyra? took place in November and they rang in the New Year and as it hasn’t shored up at TIFF/Venice, we can imagine they’ve been prepping for a possible three-peat showing in Park City.

Gist: Written by Dosunmu and Darci Picoult, this concerns a sensitive and fragile woman (Pfeiffer) who has difficulties navigating life in a rough-and-tumble, fast-paced world. She is pushed to the brink when her mother dies and she has to develop survival skills in this new phase of her life. She is wrestling with all this while attempting to hide her struggles from her new boyfriend (Sutherland).
