2021 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Laura Baumeister’s Daughter of Rage

Laura Baumeister Daughter of Rage

No news in 2020 isn’t necessarily bad news seeing that the Covid changed a lot of game plans. Laura Baumeister‘s Daughter of Rage was pegged for a mid 2020 release but it was radio silence, surprising since it won swept three of the four prizes at San Sebastian’s 8th Europe-Latin America Co-production Forum in 2019. Listed high up on our most anticipated film items for 2020, this French-Nicaraguan could shore up at Sundance, Rotterdam (she premiered her short Ombligo de agua here) or Berlin in the first quarter of 2021.

Gist: La hija de todas las rabias looks at 11-year-old María, who seethes with rage at her mother’s abandonment of her at a garbage dump in Managua, Nicaragua’s capital. Joining a gang of other abandoned children who work at the dump’s recycling factory in return for food and water, she sets out find her mother crossing a city rocked by violent protests.
