2022 TIFF: Laura Poitras, Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Werner Herzog & Sacha Jenkins in TIFF Docs
Docu-helmer Sacha Jenkins will see his Louis Armstrong’s Black & Blues lead the TIFF DOCS section in 2022 with the privileged opening night spot. After preeming in Telluride, Werner Herzog will be heading to Toronto with Theatre Of Thought — the docu is a deep dive into the human brain. After competing for the Venice Golden Lion, Laura Poitras is headed to TIFF for the premiere of All the Beauty and the Bloodshed. The award-winning docu-helmer will also be part of a talk – Visionaries: What Laura Poitras Learned from Nan Goldin.
Another docu that will ruffle up some feathers is Gabriela Cowperthwaite‘s The Grab — we imagine the super secretive docu (based on leaked docuuments) will give several black eyes to governments. According to the program’s Thom Powers, the doc has been in the works for almost a decade – it follows journalist Nathan Halverson as he undertakes a deep investigative look at the increasing land grab that’s taking place by governments who are recognizing that their resources for food and water are running out.
