Sundance put them on the map when they invited their directorial debut Turbo Kid, and when the Quebecois trio known as RKSS made the switch from micro inventive sci-fi action comedy hybrid to fully embracing ’80s nostalgia with this coming-of-age horror blend, fest programmers happily came back for seconds. With the current air and demand for retro (VHS bliss in Brigsby Bear serves as a great example of this), what has quickly become evident in Francois Simard, Anouk Whissell and Yoann-Karl Whissell‘s playful first two features is that they know how to create their own pandoras as we could easily see these films as franchises. We were on hand for the second screening at the Ray theater.
