Leningrad Cowboy: Aki Kaurismäki Invests in “The Other Side of Hope”

Aki Kaurismäki will likely be hitting the Croisette in back to back years. He’ll be in Cannes to collect Carrosse d’Or (Golden Coach) award from the Directors’ Fortnight section, and according to this bit of funding news, he’ll likely be back in 2017 with his next feature film. Cineuropa reports that The Other Side of Hope has received some coin from Finnish Film Foundation.We believe this is one of the same with the project titled “Pakolainen,” which has muse Sakari Kuosmanen (Leningrad Cowboys Go America, Drifting Clouds and The Man Without a Past) attached to star. Written by Kaurismäki, his Sputnik prod co will produce with Finnish pubcaster YLE and distributor B-Plan Distribution. The Match Factory folks are handling sales.
