Following in his four year process between film releases, after The Return (2003), The Banishment (2007), Elena (2011) and Leviathan (2014), Andrey Zvyagintsev is gearing up for his fifth feature film getting into some heady relationship territory in Loveless. Producers Alexander Rodnyansky and Sergey Melkumov (Leviathan) are teaming up with Why Not Productions.

Gist: This revolves around a couple going through a bitter divorce.

Worth Noting: He won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film but lost out to Paweł Pawlikowski’s Ida at the Oscars.

Do We Care?: Flawlessly executed Leviathan (winner of the Best Screenplay in Cannes) had been tipped by several critics to land the Palme d’Or — which went to Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Winter Sleep instead. Coming off his career best (read our Nicholas Bell’s ★★★★½ star review), we eagerly await this drama and are hopeful for a 2017 Cannes Film Fest showing.
