Cooking Up a Storm: Tran Anh Hung Puts Juliette Binoche & Benoit Magimel on “Le Pot-au-feu de Dodin Bouffant” Menu

We’re learning that Vietnamese-born French filmmaker Tran Anh Hung is well into production on what is his seventh feature film. Entering his fourth decade, shooting on Le Pot-au-feu de Dodin Bouffant (The Pot Au Feu is the international title), Hung has set Juliette Binoche to star. She’ll next be seen in Antonio Campos’ The Staircase (Mini Series) completed Paradise Highway last year and just closed out Le Lycéen. We’re hoping see then moves onto Lance Hammer’s long awaited sophomore project sometime this year. Binoche will be joined by Benoit Magimel – who looks to have replaced Gilles Lellouche in the role. The film is currently filming in the d’Angers Maine and Loire region. Production end next month.

Set in the world of French gastronomy in 1885, “The Pot Au Feu” charts the relationship between Eugenie, an esteemed cook, and Dodin, the fine gourmet she has been working for over the last 20 years. Growing fonder of one another, their bond turns into a romance and gives rise to delicious dishes that impress even the world’s most illustrious chefs. When Dodin is faced with Eugenie’s reluctance to commit to him, he decides to start cooking for her. The story is inspired by the famous French gastronome Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (read wiki entry here).

Coming off his Best Actor Cesar win for Emmanuelle Bercot’s De son vivant, Magimel will be seen on the Croisette in the comp film Tourment sur les îles and the Fortnight item Paris Memories. Olivier Delbosc will Le Pot-au-feu de Dodin Bouffant – which could logistically be ready for Cannes 2023.
